Birth Center

Each year, more than 600 babies are delivered at Upson. Compassionate staff, renovated birthing suites and a Level II nursery make Upson a great place for moms, families and babies.

We are proud to deliver nursing care for you and your baby. We offer mother-baby care which promotes mothers and babies rooming together from delivery until discharge. This allows Mom and her new bundle to be cared for by the same nurse, and it means better continuity of care for both mother and baby.

One-on-One Nursing Attention

Upson's fully-trained, experienced and specialized team of nurses will round on you throughout your stay to make sure you are completely satisfied with your birthing experience.

Large, private rooms

Upson's beautiful Labor - Delivery - Recovery - Postpartum rooms provide plenty of space for you and your family, including private baths, large windows, and comfortable lounging furniture.

All-in-One Convenience

Most women will be able to stay in the same room from admission to discharge.

On-unit C-section suite

Upson's staff is fully trained and board certified in cesarean delivery. Our dedicated c-section surgery is just a few steps from your room, so you can get the care you and your baby need all without leaving the unit.

Compassionate nursing staff

At Upson, we focus on skill, compassion and continuing education to ensure patients have the most current levels of care.

Comfort and safety. Upson is current and cutting edge when it comes to pain control, anesthesia, induction and other techniques to make birthing safer and more comfortable. We have the latest in patient safety equipment and protocols to provide the most secure facility possible for you and your baby.

Nursery

Upson encourages you and your baby to stay together. Yet we also understand you may like to take a little time out. Our well-baby nursery is located beside the nurses station, and your baby is in good hands while you shower or sleep.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Upson offers a Level II NICU to provide skilled, high-tech care for premature infants and babies with other health problems at birth.

Education

From childbirth preparation classes to one-on-one consultation to help with breastfeeding, Upson is here for you. We want all families to have the knowledge they need to go through the birthing process and also, the knowledge they need to take care of their new baby at home. To register, call today.

Pre-Registration

We encourage all patients to pre-register for services to ensure a quicker check-in process.

Free Classes

In order to prepare you for your new baby, Upson's Labor and Deliver offers free education classes. Please remember that all classes require preregistration.

Coping With Labor:

This is a great program to give you a better understanding of what to expect during labor and the birth of your baby. Included will be information about what an "induction" is; and what to expect should you have a "C-section." You will also be introduced to breathing techniques that will improve the labor experience of your baby's birth. Classes are offered:

  • 3rd Saturday of every month 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Infant Care Class:

This class teaches participants what to expect from their new baby and how to care for him or her once they go home from the hospital. Everything will be covered from bathing the baby to changing diapers – even signs that your baby is sick. This class is a must for all first time parents and even those that have not taken care of an infant for a while! This class is offered:

  • 1st Tuesday night of each month.
  • Located in the Auditorium

Breastfeeding Class:

Learn the benefits of breastfeeding. This class is offered:

  • 4th Thursday of every month
  • Located in the Audtorium
  • Instructor: Lynn Chatfield, RNCOB, BSN

Sibling Class:

This class will teach children about the routines and duties involved with an infant. The class will also help alleviate fears about the new baby and prepare Big Brothers and Big Sisters for their new role in the family!!! This class is offered:

  • 1st Saturday of odd months 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
  • Located in the Auditorium

Bundle of Joy Childbirth Seminar:

If you like discussion and interaction with other couples in a classroom setting then this is the class for you. Learn what to expect from the onset of labor through post-partum, options and support person responsibilities. This class costs $30 per couple and is offered quarterly by our highly educated staff.
